Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel, who arrived in Aizawl on Monday for a two day official visit to Mizoram, interacted with Mizoram governor Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma at Raj Bhavan last night. The Union Minister also met Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla at Chief Minister Bungalow on Tuesday.
During an interaction with the Union Minister, Mizoram governor told him that Mizoram is one of the most peaceful states in the country and is suitable for tourist destination.
He said that election could be carried out in Mizoram under peaceful environment due to the effort and contribution made by NGO and churches.
The governor told the union minister that Mizoram is a suitable place for tourist destination and many tourist both from the country and abroad could be attracted as the state shares international boundary with two countries Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Citing about the recent development made by Mizoram in the field of sports, the governor told the Union Minister that Mizoram has good potential for sports and massive effort has to be made in order to unearth this potentiality.
Sharma also told the Union Minister that Healthy Mizoram campaign was launched recently to help the Mizo outs to abstain from drugs and development healthy life.
Union Minister Goel on his part told the Mizoram governor that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving his best to development sports in the country and accordingly budget allocation has also been increased for development of sports.
He said that start-up should be made from grassroot level for development of sports in the state and the government would keep on discovering potentiality and talented persons.
He added that the government has evolved schemes, scholarship and portal for promotion of sports in the country.
Union Minister Goel also interacted with Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla at the latter’s bungalow on Tuesday.
The two leaders discussed about the recent development achieved by Mizoram in the filed of sports.
Lal Thanhawla urged the union minister to make massive effort for sports development in Mizoram.
He also told the Union Minister that around 20 youths from Mizoram were sent to Germany under the sponsorship of Tata trust and state government for football training.
He also pointed out the India badminton Chief coach P. Gopichand had recently visited Mizoram and expressed his desire to establish Centre of Excellence for promotion of badminton in the state.
Union Minister Goel while expressing happiness for the recent development made in the field of sports, assured that he would extend all possible helps to develop sports in Mizoram.
